OUR STORY
How It Started
The idea that became NorthWoods Church was first conceived by a group of evangelistic members at Grace Baptist Church in Evansville, IN. Throughout its history, Grace had begun many mission churches in the area. Eventually, a core group was formed from Grace Baptist and after a long search, Bobby Pell was called as our pastor.
Grace had initially purchased a parcel of land on the northeast side of Vanderburgh County to begin this mission. The core group began meeting in homes and then after Pastor Bobby began to plant the church, we began meeting in an old gymnasium at the McCutchanville Volunteer Fire Department. The church quickly outgrew the facilities in McCutchanville and leased space on Hitch-Peters Road in a commercial/industrial area. It wasn’t long before NorthWoods needed more space and a small church building was purchased on Oak Hill Road. Within a year the church had grown to two Sunday services. It was clear that a larger building once again would be needed. In this time, the parcel of land originally purchased by Grace Baptist Church had been sold due to its location. The church purchased the land on north Green River Road where we are today. The building we are in today is only phase one of the master plan. Our two story building is nestled in a wooded area next to a lake. It includes a worship center, classrooms, and offices.
We are excited to see what God has done at NorthWoods. But we know the best is yet to come. We invite you to become a part of this great journey.
